Thank you for writing this! I only wish i could have read it 3 or 4 months ago when the problem first appeared. We have a mixed house hold of grandma (that’s me) my daughter and three children, and my oldest son who has been back home for the past year. So, my daughter has had typical ringworm on her leg and developed another several months later on her shoulder. The 2 youngest children have slept with her and they occasionally sleep in my bed in my bed (recent birthdays aside, they are now a boy of 6yrs, girl of 4yrs) their big brother is 11 and has his own room but his little brother occasionally sleeps in there too. But his brother has had eczema since a baby, not too bad but bad enough, so when the 6year old boy developed dry, itchy patches on his scalp, we all assumed it was eczema. He also has a problem with staph when he gets an open sore/wound. So after it got really bad in one area of his scalp and eczema tx did nothing, staph tx did nothing, she took him to the Dr. She treated with amoxicillin – it did nothing. Back to the doctor today and, low and behold! Ringworm. Now not only must the poor lad go through 2 months of oral meds at a sizable dosing several times a day, but this is probably what EVERY OTHER member of the household is going to have to do. I take meds which can cause itching of the face and scalp in particular but other areas as well. I haven’t noticed any hair loss but that should have been a dead give away with the boy and since we have all shared towels, pillows, hugs, and hair brushes, well this is a mess. BIG NOTE! The reason the first doctor did not treat the obvious ringworm infection is because the presenting hair loss, patches of dry skin, and especially the hard bumps (large ones too, I might add!) under the scalp skin is because these are typical signs and symptoms in Black folks, not the White folks. White folks present with flat, circular patches, black folks present with the bumps. (Don’t y’all get all upset with me for pointing this out. Most sensible people understand that there are differences in all people just as there are differences in the way biological females must be treated medically from biological males and visa versa). So, we are Caucasian, atypically, not any of the usual flat, circular sores were noticed on his scalp. Initially there was the one and possibly the others were as well but we could not see them under his hair. But we could feel the bumps. My daughter is notorious for waiting way too long to go to the doctor so maybe since the bumps and hair loss are a larger stage progression of the infection, she will take quicker note of any reoccurrence. Thank you to those who had patience to read my comment through to the end. Gigi

I am so glad to have found your article on ridding my scalp of this annoying dandruff. I had never had dandruff until after 45 years of marriage, my ex left. Of course, deep depression and stress followed. The stress continues with legal battles for 4 years. I also began a very destructive way of eating and reduced hygiene habits. Working on all of those issues but the dandruff is still here. I didn’t want to use the over counter shampoos as I have waist length hair and want to maintain the health and beauty of it.
I believe your description of the home remedies are great and will try the vinegar as it seems would be the most simple to do.
Thank you for your research and sharing it. Hope to come back to report complete success!
