We can try to hide our feelings but we often forget that our eyes speak. Taking care of our eyes need not depend on expensive store brought creams or formulations. We can even use common kitchen ingredients, particularly oils and essential oils to cure eye problems like under-eye puffiness, dark circles and wrinkles.
Let us discuss easy DIY homemade anti-ageing recipes to rejuvenate the eyes.
1. Easy eye creams for tired eyes
Use the following DIY homemade recipes to wake up tired eyes:
· Aloe Vera Extract
Use Aloe Vera gel to apply under the eyes at night. Wash off the next morning. Repeat every night.
· Potato juice
Peel a small potato. Grate it. Fill and tie up two small, thin, clean pieces of cloth with the grated potato. Place each ‘poultice’ on the eyes for 10 minutes. Repeat this remedy as needed to rejuvenate tired eyes.
· Cucumber aloe vera honey and lemon juice eye cream
This is a wonderful home remedy for rejuvenating aged eyes, tired baggy eyes and dark circles. Cucumber has skin whitening properties. It is also cooling and refreshing owing to its high water content. Aloe Vera soothes, heals and protects. Honey is anti microbial and soothing for the eyes. Lemon juice is packed with Vitamin C-an antioxidant that brightens the skin and removes dark spots form under-eye area.
Steps: Grate half a cucumber. Mix the juice with juice squeezed from half a lemon. Add ¼ tsp honey and one tsp Aloe Vera gel. Apply to the delicate skin over the eyes as well as under eye area. Leave it on for 30 minutes before rinsing clean.
· Green tea
Green tea can give tired eyes an instant wake me up. Brew the bags, drink up the tea and apply the cooled bags on closed eyes for 10 minutes. Use the time to meditate or simply doze off. Repeat this remedy once a week, preferably in the morning when the eyes acquire a tired look after a late night.
2. DIY homemade under-eye cream for dark circles
· Pumpkin pie eye cream for dark circles
Steps: Peel a small pumpkin. Cook its pulp in 2 cups of water and add 1 tsp honey to it. Mash the mixture. Store the excess in a small glass bowl and use required quantity on the under-eye region for reducing dark circles and firming the skin. Leave it on for a few minutes before washing off with tepid water. Use up the leftover mixture within 1 week.
3. Natural coffee and essential oil eye cream
Ingredients: 3 tbsp coffee grounds infused in carrier oil ( strained after a few hours. Resulting oil will be brown in color. You can use any carrier oil like coconut oil, olive oil or sweet almond oil to infuse the coffee grounds in.) ½ tbsp each of Rosehip oil and Jojoba oil, 1 ½ tbsp of shea and cocoa butters and 10 drops each of lavender and chamomile essential oils, 1 tablet of vitamin E oil.
To make the under eye cream: melt the cocoa and shea butter in a microwave safe bowl. Add the coffee infused oil, rosehip and jojoba oils. Mix well. Using a dropper, add each essential oil to the bowl and continue mixing. Finally add a few drops of Vitamin E oil. (Note: Vitamin E oil as well as essential oils can cause allergic reactions. So, do a patch test once.)
Store the above under-eye cream in a glass container. Use the cream every night.
· Green Tea infused under eye cream
Green tea is one of the best ingredients for eyes. It rejuvenates the eyes and lifts and firms aging skin.
Steps: Infuse a used green tea bag in olive oil for 5-6 hours. Discard the tea bag, and use the oil to make the under eye cream. Mix warmed up green tea infused oil with a few drops of Vitamin E oil and few drops of carrot seed oil. Apply this cream to the delicate skin under the eyes.
4. For lashes and brows
- Apply some castor oil on the eye lashes using a q-tip, each night before bed. Be careful not to get the oil in your eyes. Also apply the oil on your eyebrows to grow and fill out sparse eyebrows.
- For shiny brows, apply alcohol or peach oil on the brows and relax for 15 minutes. Rinse off. Repeat weekly.
