Ankle sprains are common painful injuries that occur due to turning of the foot. They can be very painful and incapacitating. You mustn’t overlook a sprained ankle as failure to do so can lead to chronic issues. However, if treated quickly and in the right manner, you can easily get rid of a sprained ankle overnight.
1. RICE methodology
The best way to heal a sprained ankle overnight is to Rest it, Ice it for 10 minutes to reduce swelling, Compress it with an elastic bandage and keep the leg Elevated.
2. Cold and hot compress
Never apply heat to a sprained ankle within 24-48 hours of the injury. This is because, heat increases blood circulation and often worsens the pain. Instead, apply ice to the area to bring the swelling down. Once the swelling has subsided, apply a hot pack or hot water bottle. Ice and heat compresses may be applied for 20 minutes each, 2-3 times a day or as needed.
3. Apple cider vinegar

Make a paste of powdered bran or oatmeal with some vinegar. Apply it to the ankle. This remedy will cure a sprain fast. Reapply as often as needed.

7. Alternate hot cold foot soak
Soak the sprained ankle in hot water (as much as you can tolerate) and immediately follow it with a cold water soak. Repeat this several times. Each time, soak the injured foot for at least 10 minutes. This remedy will relax the muscles, reduce swelling and immediately bring down pain and inflammation.
8. Warm woolen cloth
Tightly wrap a woolen cloth over the injured ankle like a bandage. Drip hot water over the bandage as much as you can tolerate. Repeat this for 10 minutes at least until the pain subsides.

10. Comfrey ointment

The allantoin compound found in comfrey reduces inflammation and pain and heals sprains quickly. A study comparing pain relieving property of comfrey versus an over-the-counter pain relief gel showed that participants who used comfrey ointment had 92% less pain compared to 84% less in the gel users.

11. Essential oils
There are many pain relieving essential oils for sprained ankle and the best ones include Blue Tansy, Helichrysum, Wintergreen, Peppermint, Camphor, or Chamomile. You can also use Black pepper, Rosemary, Lemongrass, Lavender, Marjoram and/or Eucalyptus. Simply rub the oil in the area of pain. If the oil feels too hot or cold, dilute it with some vegetable oil. You can also make a compress by adding a bit of the oil in warm water (or cold water). Soak a clean flannel cloth in the water and wring out excess. Apply the compress to the ankle.
